Tractor and Spray Supervisor

Summary

Oversee entire spray program; including ordering material and keeping records by performing the following duties personally or through subordinates; Oversees the daily operations of tractor work and spray operations in the field.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Arrange operators for equipment and sprayers daily.
  • Determine work procedures, prepare work schedules and expedite workflow.
  • Issue written and oral instructions to tractor drivers and other foremen.
  • Resolve work problems or assist workers in resolving problems.
  • Check progress of tractor and spray operations.
  • Maintain the proper calibration, mixing and loading procedures of the spray machines.
  • Deliver spray material on a “just-in-time” basis in order to prevent material loss or damage.
  • Post all posting requirements.
  • Monitor what is sprayed to make sure we are abiding by all label requirements.
  • Watch over actual spray applications in the field to ensure equipment and employees are working properly.
  • Ensure that the equipment is maintained and serviced as needed.
  • Arrange for fuel fill-ups of equipment and pumps.
  • Help with drainage duties as needed.
  • Responsible for spray room inventory and usage sheet.
  • Maintain workers’ time records.
  • Document all WPS and GAP training of crew.
  • Attend all Safety meetings.
  • Follow all PPE rules, regulations and requirements.
  • Adhere to all safety and company policies and procedures.
  • Adhere to all Food Safety/GAP’s guidelines as determined by management.
  • Implement and adhere to all safety policies.
  • Follow all safety regulations and guidelines and ensure that the equipment operators adhere as well.
  • Confer with the Farm Manager on land prep schedules to ensure that the planting schedules are met.
  • Work with planting operations in order to maximize efficiency and planting quality for a consistent start to each crop.
  • Work with other supervisors to ensure everyone has the equipment necessary for efficient daily operations.
  • Drive and operate all farm machinery.
  • Attach farm implements to the machinery.
  • Check all fluid levels, grease and do walk around inspection of equipment each morning.
  • Adhere to checklists provided.
  • Maintain equipment to prepare and produce vegetables.
  • Correctly mix spray materials following all label directions and WPS, if applicable.
  • Report any mechanical malfunctions immediately for foreman
  • Maintain a neat and orderly shop and chemical storage yard.
  • Clean pumps when needed.
  • Shovel work when needed.
  • Coordinate daily with Farm Manager using reports from scouting department, schedules and weather conditions to determine work schedule.
  • Study and standardize procedures to improve efficiency of subordinates and equipment.
  • Calibrate spray machines.
  • Produce all herbicide spray records.
  • Maintain weekly chemical inventory and have available upon request.
  • Generate checklist for PPE procedures.
  • Input actual spray information into Tiger Jill
  • Maintain records of all spray applications and have available upon request.
  • Immediately report any accident or incidence of injury to farm manager and office.
  • Maintain all departmental required GAP documentation.
  • Ensure all safety, WPS and Gap training for subordinates are complete, current, and documented.
  • Safety Committee and GAP Committee Member.
  • HAZMAT and OSHA Level III trained.
  • If housed, pump duty may be assigned.
  • Supervise keeping roadways and other areas mowed.
  • Supervise workers in maintenance and clean-up of equipment.
  • Follow all PPE rules, regulations and guidelines.
  • Produce all spray reports and enter into computer.
  • Suggest changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of work crew.
  • Other projects and duties as assigned.

Supervisory Duties

Responsible for the direct supervision of an assistant spray supervisor, chemical and spray; equipment operators and 12-20 tractor drivers and oversees the labor crew-leaders, harvest crews and truck drivers.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.

  • Three to five years of related training and/or experience.
  • Must possess the ability to work a flexible schedule and long hours as needed.
  • High school education or general education degree; or equivalent combination of education and/or experience. Must be able to demonstrate the ability to read and write at a level consistent with the completion of a high school course of study.
  • Valid driver’s license of resident state.
  • Private Applicator Chemical license.
  • OSHA level III or higher certification.
